On June 12th, the Theresa Jedd, Alina Weiß, Florentine Koppenbrg, Dörte Ohlhorst, and Katrin Beer facilitated a simulation workshop called Geovania at the TUM campus-wide Sustainability Day. The workshop involved an interactive simulation on international cooperation for the renewable energy transition. In this simulation, there were four fictitious countries that needed to phase out coal and gas and bring wind and solar energy production into operation in order to reduce the continent’s CO2 emissions and avoid the worst impacts of climate change. There were 24 attendees who took on the roles of country leaders and the ministers of energy, environment, and social welfare. It was a noteworthy experience of introducing novel concepts to non-majors: the two-level game and the complexity of social-environmental challenges. The political science majors got to sharpen their negotiation and public speaking skills. The Geovania simulation was developed in collaboration with the project partners for GeoReSim. It is available for use, along with all necessary materials on the following page: https://geovania.nettopuis.live/
