This semester again TUM SOT will host a hybrid event series about current ideas and research from all research groups.
SOT-Brown-Bag Lunches will be held every two weeks during the semester on Tuesdays from noon to 1 pm (12:00-13:00 Uhr).
Location: Richard-Wagner-Str.1; B.158
Abstract:
The world is facing complex socio-environmental challenges that call for solutions. Transformation is urgently required. Science is being called upon to guide this transformation and to provide policy-makers with these solutions. However, traditional global environmental assessments (GEAs) are not necessarily up to the task. Instead, there is a need for assessments that are more directly usable and that involve a broader array of experts and stakeholders. Some analysts have called these solution-oriented assessments (SOAs).
In this talk, I argue that, in order to successfully guide transformative change, assessments—and the institutions performing them—need to transform as well. I especially discuss the role of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). My talk brings together my scientific research on science-policy-societies interactions with my practical experience from participating in IPBES as lead expert for transformative change to explore what roles social sciences can play in response to the challenges.”
