Resumé
Suchithra is a doctoral researcher at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), researching the legal and policy dimensions of global plastic pollution within the context of the emerging Global Plastic Treaty. Her research explores how international and national legal frameworks can be designed to effectively mitigate plastic pollution and its impacts on human health and the environment while ensuring equity and accountability in global environmental governance.
Her work bridges law, policy, and sustainability studies, with a focus on the role of international agreements, government responsibility, and environmental justice in shaping global responses to plastic waste. By looking at how different regions manage their laws, her research seeks to help create clear and enforceable legal tools for a fair and effective shift to a sustainable economy that manages plastic pollution.
Before beginning her doctorate, Suchithra completed a Master’s in Politics and Technology at TUM, specialising in sustainability, regulatory frameworks, and political economy. She also holds bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Law, as well as a master’s degree in Business Law.
She has practised law before the High Court of Karnataka, India and served as legal counsel to multinational corporations and international banks, providing advice on corporate compliance, international/multinational agreements, and global governance issues. She has also worked with the OECD in Paris, contributing to evaluations of international legal frameworks on tax transparency and financial governance.
Her broader interests include international law, environmental law, global health, sustainable development, and the governance of emerging global treaties.
