From the Ground Up: Farmers’ Perspectives on AI in Agriculture

Project Aim:
The project examines how farmers’ perceptions and use of AI technologies shape adoption and governance expectations—with critical implications for global food security.
Collaborative Partners:
This one-year research initiative is a joint effort of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
Research Approach:
- Comparative analysis across Israel, Germany, and the United States
- Mixed-method design combining:
Professional surveys (e.g., via DYNATA)
In-depth interviews and focus groups
Key Questions:
- How do cultural, structural, and technological factors shape AI adoption?
- What are farmers’ expectations regarding governance and regulation?
Expected Impact:
The findings will provide strategic guidance for equitable AI governance and promote farmer-centered innovation—helping ensure that AI technologies support sustainability, resource efficiency, and resilient food systems worldwide.
