The student team “GridnAItion” prevailed against over 70 teams in the nationwide competition and convinced the jury with their idea: With the help of AI forecasts, the team wants to overcome the thermal inertia of heat engines. In doing so, they aim to utilize district heating networks as a power source to heat electricity storage systems and thereby make a crucial contribution to the energy transition. This year's university competition, "Digital Future Challenge," had the motto "Shaping the future digitally" and was organized by the D21 initiative and the Deloitte Foundation under the patronage of Federal Minister Dr. Volker Wissing.
