Following her appointment as Minister for Research, Technology, and Space on May 6, Dorothee Bär officially took over the responsibilities from her predecessor, Cem Özdemir, on May 7. As part of this transition, she is reorganizing the former Federal Ministry of Education and Research. “For a strong future for our country, for growth and prosperity, research and technology must play a greater role in Germany,” said Bär.
The newly established Ministry for Research, Technology, and Space will therefore set new thematic priorities. In the future, particular focus will be placed on space exploration, artificial intelligence, and quantum technologies. “As emphasized in our coalition agreement, aerospace has a strategic role for Germany as a business location. That’s why we will invest heavily in research and development,” Bär explained. In addition, the new ministry plans to place greater emphasis on the games sector as a growing area of industry and research in Germany.
Drawing on her experience in the Chancellery under Angela Merkel, Bär brings expertise in electric aviation, gaming, and higher education policy.
We wish Dorothee Bär every success in her new role!
