Digitainability for EuroTeQ Universities

The “Student challenge: Digitainability for EuroTeQ Universities” project is funded by the EuroTeQ Teaching Fund. Prof. Dr. Stefan Wurster and Dr. Markus Siewert lead the interdisciplinary project, which will be carried out from June 2021 to February 2022. Pablo Conrat Fuentes supports the project.
Project description
Sustainable transformation and digital transformation can be seen as the core challenges of our time. The EuroTeQ universities play a leading role in designing digital and sustainable transformation processes. Under the motto 'Digitainability for EuroTeQ Universities,' we offer a teaching project in the form of a student challenge across the participating EuroTeQ universities, which enables students to develop specific project ideas at the intersection of sustainable and digital transformation at the university level. Course content
In this project-based seminar, students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge on topics related to digitainability - i.e. the promotion of sustainable digitization or digital sustainability at the EuroTeQ universities. During the semester, the students should develop their own project and present a first pitch of their idea. Possible topics include:
- To what extent are open source programs used in the EuroTeQ universities, and what alternatives are available?
- How can the CO2 footprint of meals in the canteens at EuroTeQ universities be visualized appealingly?
- What could a campus app look like that students can use to point out unsustainable aspects and damage on campus?
Our team actively supports students in planning and implementing their projects, providing a seminar that offers ample space for initiative and creativity, as well as mutual exchange and peer-to-peer feedback.
Program
The course is structured as follows: It begins with an introductory workshop to discuss key issues relating to digitization and to develop initial project ideas. These ideas will then be further developed in the following workshops on design thinking, project management, and storytelling. Each project team has to present its ideas to its fellow students during the semester. The course concludes with a student-led conference to which relevant stakeholders will also be invited.
The seminar will take place on the following dates (exact times are still to be determined):
- Friday 5th November 2021 & Saturday 6th November 2021
1.5 days - entry (online) - Friday November 19th 2021 / Saturday November 20th
1 day - Design Thinking Workshop (online) - Friday 3rd December 2021 & Saturday 4th December
1.5 days - project management & storytelling (online) - Friday, 21 January 2022
1 day - group project presentation (online) - Friday 4th March 2022
1 day - final conference (online)
Students from all MA programs at TUM and the participating EuroTeQ universities are welcome. 3 ECTS can be earned for this course. Students must actively participate in the seminar. The grading is based on the presentation of the group project and a final report (50% each). The seminar will be held in English. Content
The focus of the first block is getting to know each other and initiating the group formation process. In addition, we would like to jointly develop an introduction to the topics of sustainable and digital transformation, by, for, and with universities, and develop initial project ideas.
The project seminar takes place online via Zoom at the following times.
- Friday, 5 November 2021; 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Content
The second block serves the (further) development of possible project ideas and the constitution of groups who want to work together on a project over the course of the semester. In order to promote project development as creatively as possible, we cooperate with professional trainers from UnternehmerTUM who offer a design thinking workshop.
The project seminar takes place online via Zoom at the following times.
- Friday November 19, 2021; 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Saturday November 20, 2021; 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Content
The third block serves to further develop the project ideas. In addition to continuing the Design Thinking workshop, storytelling strategies will be conveyed. The UnternehmerTUM trainers will again lead the 1.5-day workshop. On Saturday afternoon, Matthias Lehner will present various project management strategies and apply them to the students' projects through practical exercises.
The project seminar will take place online via Zoom at the following times.
- Friday, 2 December 2021; 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Saturday, 3 December 2021; 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Content
The fourth block focuses on the presentation of the group projects: this is where the project groups pitch their initial ideas. There are no limits to the presentation method - e.g., poster session, presentation, storyboard, video clip, etc. In addition to the peer-to-peer feedback, other cooperation partners will comment on the ideas presented and give suggestions for further development. The presentations thus represent a significant milestone for the project's further development.
The project seminar will take place online via Zoom at the following times.
- Friday, 21 January 2022; 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Content
The student conference concludes the teaching project. Here, the project ideas and results are presented to a TUM-wide public and discussed with experts from science and practice.
The project seminar will take place online via Zoom at the following times.
- Friday March 4, 2022; 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
