Workshops taking place on Monday, April 24th

Led by Chiara Ullstein (TU Munich) & Michel Hohendanner (University of Applied Sciences Munich)

In the workshop Metaverse Perspectives, possible (socio-social) developments that the metaverse could trigger in the future are explored together with students. After a short thematic introduction, participants will first be confronted with perspectives on fictitious metaverse applications (Speculative Design) and react to them from their personal perspective. Subsequently, participants will develop their own ideas in the context of a future metaverse. The workshop invites participants to get to know the idea of the metaverse and to think about possible future developments.

Led by Anna Hartl, Angelina Mooseder & Elena Starke (all TU Munich)

Social media are omnipresent in the schoolyard and in students' free time. The InstaClone project thus directly addresses the living environment of students and pursues the goal of making the collected data and algorithms of social media platforms visible. InstaClone copies Instagram in terms of appearance and functionality, but is completely controllable and therefore ideal for training data literacy. During the workshop, your students can take a look "behind the scenes" of a social media tool. This also sensitizes students to better classify digital content and recognize fake news. They will also be made aware of what content they share and how they communicate on platforms.

Led by Enkelejda Kasneci, Kathrin Seßler & Virmarie Maquiling (all TU Munich)

During this workshop, we will step together into the future and unlock the power of generative AI systems. Our workshop is designed to spark creativity and curiosity. Through an interactive experience, the participants of the course will be guided through the fascinating world of generative AI, with a special focus on ChatGPT, as one of the most advanced AI-powered conversational agents. Additionally, participants will engage with cutting-edge AI technologies, collaborate in creative challenges, and witness the limitless potential of AI-assisted storytelling, art, and music.

Led by Silke Schmidt (XR HUB Bavaria)

The XR HUB Bavaria will give an introduction into different social VR platforms with a focus on an open-source software Mozilla HUBs/Spoke and will show a number of examples for different purposes (Exhibitions, showrooms, party, education etc.). Participants will have the opportunity to meet up in these spaces virtually. In the practical part participants will first develop ideas for a city of the future and in a second step will implement their ideas with 3D tools like tinkercad (https://www.tinkercad.com/), Blender if participants have experience with that software or Minecraft. Finally, the projects will be made accessible in virtual reality and participants can experience the results of the workshop together.

Workshops taking place on Thursday, April 27th

Led by Santiago Hurtado & Anna Keune (both TU Munich)

Social media tools and technologies present rich everyday opportunities to engage with algorithms that are digital, social, and material. For example, choosing which content to share or playing with preferences to train the feed. Yet, such connected algorithmic doing also involves navigating substantial risks. Building on the social media experiences of Latina youths’, in this workshop, we facilitate opportunities to identify the connected algorithms and risks you’ve experienced on social media and design opportunities to prototype desirable digital and tangible social media futures.

Led by Verena Kappes & Anna Keune (both TU Munich)

AI technologies have entered educational settings and are here to stay. Such tools have the potential to improve teaching and learning with affordances, such as personalized learning, individualized support, availability at any time, and generative visualizations. However, there is an ethical dimension to integrating “AI Ed Tech” in educational settings and there is a need to identify ways for learners and educators to responsibly navigate this landscape. Leveraging the material metaphors implicated in public discourses about AI Ed Tech, we invite participants to explore the affordances and constraints of AI in Education and to craft a prototype that supports AI Ethics Literacy.

Led by young professionals from the Responsible Technology Hub

Join us in building a new and responsible hypothetical social media platform. In the workshop, you will create a version of your ideal social media platform in the form of a paper prototype. Through design thinking tools and guidance, we will help you visually realize the idea.
