In the presence of US Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of Defense von der Leyen, Prime Minister Söder, President of the Landtag of Bavaria Ilse Aigner, Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger and Cindy McCain, the Munich Security Conference remembered the late US Senator John McCain. McCain’s life's work will be honored with the newly established John McCain Dissertation Award, which will be awarded up to two doctoral theses each year for outstanding scientific contributions in the field of political science, with a focus on transatlantic relations. This year's two winners were selected by an international jury chaired by the Reform Rector of the Hochschule für Politik München, Prof. da Conceição-Heldt.
