Dear students,
A warm welcome to all new and returning students! The faculty and staff at the Hochschule für Politik München (HfP) are looking forward to getting to know the new ones among you and to seeing upper level students again. With several new faculty who have recently joined us in the last year, the HfP is bigger and better than ever before. This means there will be an even wider variety of exciting courses for you to take. In addition to classes that will give you insights into the fundamentals of political science and research methodology, you will be able to choose from one of the largest selection of courses linking political science to technology questions of any university in Europe. Whether you are interested in global health, climate change and energy transitions, digital governance, social media, international trade, European integration, cyber security, the ethical dimensions of new technologies, or many other issues, you will find we have much to offer. We also want you to explore outside of our faculty and take courses in other departments so that you can get a sense of the many exciting technological and scientific developments that will have important implications for politics and society.
Yes. Due to the Corona pandemic, this semester will once again be a digital semester. While this will make some aspects of the university experience harder and less personal, we are doing our best to make the most out of the situation. We have even heard from some students that they like the convenience of online learning. Together we can do our best to make the digital semester a terrific semester, exploring new ways of teaching, learning and experimentation.
Please note that staying on the HfP campus is currently only permitted for study-related purposes. Please avoid gatherings of all kinds and keep the minimum distance. In our study rooms you will find self-study opportunities - although due to corona conditions only with limited capacity (26 places in room H.101 and 18 places in room H.102). Before entering the study rooms, please check with the help of the QR code whether there are still free places available. The learning rooms can be used in two shifts: from 9.00-12.50 and from 13.00-16.50. The first come - first serve principle applies. Please be advised that the maximum seating capacity may not be exceeded and that masks are compulsory throughout the building. All requirements for the use of the learning rooms can be found here. HfP will remain closed to the general public until further notice. The faculty and administrative staff at the HfP are very concerned with your academic well-being. On May 11, our lecture series Career Paths will take place with a special focus on career opportunities in media. We are honored to welcome Bastian Brinkmann, who is a journalist and deputy head of the business editorial department of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. Among his work was the investigation of the Panama Papers and Luxembourg Leaks. More information about this virtual event will follow soon, so please stay tuned.
