Shruti Shukla, a second-year PhD student, represented Prof. Steinert at a strategic planning meeting for the Butaro Human Development and Demographic Surveillance project between May 8th to May 11th. Held at New York University's Abu Dhabi campus, the gathering brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology, the TUM School of Medicine and Health, as well as delegates from New York University Abu Dhabi, University of Global Health Equity Rwanda, Partners in Health Rwanda, and the Ministry of Health Rwanda.
This ambitious initiative aims to conduct a comprehensive survey covering a population of over 38,000 individuals in the Butaro region of Rwanda. This survey will serve as the cornerstone for future studies on human development and health in the area. The project boasts an international and interdisciplinary team comprising experts in biology, medicine, demography, public health, sexual and reproductive health, preventive health, and development economics.
Over the coming months, the team will commence the baseline survey and subsequently strategise for grant applications. For further insights into this ground-breaking project, please feel free to contact Prof. Steinert or Shruti Shukla.
