Prof. Dr. Tim Büthe
Resume
Prof. Tim Büthe hat seit dem 1. Juli 2016 den neu geschaffenen Lehrstuhl für Internationale Beziehungen an der Hochschule für Politik der TU München übernommen. Zuvor war er Associate Professor of Political Science and Public Policy sowie Senior Fellow der Duke University (USA).
Prof. Büthe begann sein Studium 1990/91 an der Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe Universität in Frankfurt am Main und studierte dann Politik, Wirtschaftswissenschaften und Geschichte an der Harvard University (B.A., 1995) sowie Politikwissenschaft an der Columbia University in New York (M.A., 1997; M.Phil., 1998; Ph.D., 2002). 2002/03 war er James B. Conant Fellow am Center for European Studies der Harvard University , 2003/04 Political Science Fellow (im Rang eines Visiting Assistant Professors) an der Stanford University. 2004 begann er als Assistant Professor an der Duke University. 2007-09 war er RWJ-Foundation Scholar in Health Policy Research an der University of California, Berkeley.
Prof. Büthe erforscht primär politische Aspekte internationaler Wirtschaftsbeziehungen, darunter:
- Wettbewerbspolitik angesichts wirtschaftlicher Globalisierung
- Ursachen und Konsequenzen von Direktinvestitionen
- Möglichkeiten und Grenzen nicht-staatlicher Entwicklungshilfe
- Entwicklung technischer Normen für Industrieprodukte, Finanzmärkte und Lebensmittel (und die Rolle solcher Standards im internationalen Handel sowie beim Konsumentenschutz in globalen Märkten).
Seine multi-methodischen Arbeiten zu diesen Themen zielen darauf ab, das Zusammenspiel nationaler und internationaler Institutionen besser zu verstehen – sowie die Bedingungen, unter denen staatliche und nichtstaatliche Institutionen bestimmten politischen Akteuren größeren Einfluss verleihen, statt sie einzuschränken.
Prof. Büthe hat mehr als 30 Aufsätze in Fachzeitschriften und Sammelbänden publiziert und ist Autor einer Monographie und Herausgeber bzw. Mitherausgeber von mehreren Sonderheften internationaler Zeitschriften.
Prof. Büthe ist Herausgeber (mit Prof. Alan Jacobs) von Qualitative and Multi-Method Research sowie Associate Editor von Business and Politics. Er ist Gründungsmitglied der "Rethinking Regulation"-Initiative am Kenan Institute for Ethics.
