Dr. Jannat Fatima Farooqui is currently visiting the Professorship for Global Health at Technical University of Munich to conduct a research study on the topic “Exploring Experiences of Muslim Students in German Schools: Empirical Responses to Religious Discrimination”, under the supervision of Prof. Janina Steinert. The research study is being conducted through the German Chancellor Fellowship Programme, 2022-23, under the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

The research study aims to understand the experiences and challenges of being a Muslim student in German schools. The research design employs qualitative exploratory research design methods by conducting in-depth interviews with Muslim students (10 – 18 years) attending educational institutions in Germany and their parents. The cross-sectional interviews with both Muslim students and their parents seek to explore the day to day experiences of a Muslim student in a German school, challenges and discrimination that a Muslim student might face and ways through which Muslim students can feel more included and accepted in the German education system. The primary objective of the research is to explore strategies of support for Muslim students in Germany.
