As part of the “Science Popularization” project within the framework of GIZ’s “Sino-German Cooperation on Climate Change - Climate Partnership,” TUM and Tsinghua University will be offering a for-credit study camp entitled “Sino-German Climate Cooperation: Past Progress and Future Paths” as part of the project “Enhancing Sino-German Cooperation for Climate Mitigation.”
Professor Miranda Schreurs will lead a group of up to 20 TUM Master’s students to Beijing, where classes will be held in collaboration with Tsinghua University.
This summer school will focus on Sino-German Climate Cooperation: Past Progress and Future Paths. Sino-German cooperation has evolved over time, especially as economic disparities have lessened and technological parity between China and Germany has been achieved. In the past, under schemes like the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism, Germany invested heavily in renewable energy development in China. Today, China has surpassed Germany in renewable energy deployment. Now, China and Germany can stand shoulder to shoulder as partners in climate protection both domestically and globally. This suggests the need for strengthening existing and developing new modes of bilateral cooperation to enhance both domestic and international climate action. Professors and experts from Germany and China will offer lectures from various disciplinary backgrounds, exploring different approaches to enhancing climate action.
