Résumé
Jana Walbaum holds a degree in Public Administration, having graduated as the valedictorian during her dual study program with the German Armed Forces. She completed her Master’s degree in Sustainable Resource Management at the Technical University of Munich, which shaped her research interest in sustainability. During her Master’s studies, she gained international academic experience through semesters abroad at the Technical University of Denmark and Deakin University in Australia. She began her doctoral studies at TUM in the winter semester of 2023/24 and is a scholarship recipient of the Foundation of German Business.
PhD Project
Her doctoral project focuses on a trinational comparative analysis of how sustainability is taught at higher education institutions across Germany, Japan, and the USA. She interviews university professors about their sustainability modules and teaching methods. Furthermore, she examines the role of institutional policies, with a particular focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and conducts interviews with university sustainability offices. This comprehensive study features a cross-national comparison of six higher education institutions: the Technical University of Munich, Leuphana University Lüneburg, Toyohashi University of Technology, the University of Tokyo, Prescott College, and Yale University.
Her broader research interests include Higher Education for Sustainable Development , sustainability policy and governance, and international comparative research.
