Markus Siewert joined the Chair for Policy Analysis at the Bavarian School for Public Policy as lecturer in April 2019. Before moving to the TU Munich, he was a Pre- and Post-Doc at the Goethe University Frankfurt, the John-F.-Kennedy Institute at FU Berlin, and the University of Freiburg.
After his study at the University of Freiburg with majors in Political Science and Contemporary History, Markus Siewert received his PhD from the Goethe University Frankfurt in 2017 with a dissertation (“summa cum laude”) on the engagement and success of US presidents in the legislative arena. He was a visiting (doctoral) fellow at various prestigious research universities in the United States (Georgetown, American University and University of California Irvine) and Europe (European University Institute Florence, Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, Università degli Studi di Siena, University of Birmingham).
In his research, he works on issues related to government performance in established democracies and its institutional and political determinants, as well as on question concerning the qualities of democracies, in general. In addition, he has strong a methodological expertise in qualitative methods dealing with (causal) inference, inter alia, Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA), Process Tracing and other case study designs, as well as the integration of strategies in multimethod research.
