The Chair of European and Global Governance at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) / Munich School of Politics and Public Policy and the Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination at Princeton University are co-organizing a research workshop to critically examine the European Union’s Global Gateway Initiative. Spearheaded by Professor Eugénia da Conceição-Heldt (TUM/HfP) and Professor Sophie Meunier (Princeton University), this two-day event will bring together leading scholars to analyze the EU’s strategic response to global challenges.
The Global Gateway Initiative, designed as a counterpoint to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, seeks to enhance the EU’s global influence by promoting sustainable development and strengthening economic and geopolitical ties with international partners. The workshop will explore its potential as a tool for economic security, its implications for EU foreign policy, and its impact on global competition, development finance, and strategic interests.
