At yesterday’s final event of the Digital Future Challenge, hosted at the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport under the patronage of Minister Dr. Volker Wissing, Bikram Dutta, Kilian Golinski, Alper Kınacı & Henry-Vincent Klein (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München & Technical University Munich) secured first place.
With their project GridnAItion, the students impressed the jury with their visionary ideas. Their initiative aims to promote sustainable energy integration through intelligent storage technology, based on a use case from DBU Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt. Their solution seeks to reduce electricity costs and support the energy transition.
Third place on the podium went to Errikos K., Yulan Xie, Yujie Zhang & Ghena Zidan (TUM) with their project HorizonRail. Their initiative focuses on hazard and emergency detection in long-distance trains of Deutsche Bahn, aiming to improve safety, comfort, and service quality while ensuring privacy protection.
Both projects originated from the sustAInability seminar, organized by the Technical University of Munich, the Munich School of Politics and Public Policy, MUC.DAI, and the Hochschule München. Led by the HfP Professorship of Policy Analysis, the seminar focuses on interdisciplinary, challenge-based learning, enabling students to develop innovative solutions for real-world problems. Participation in the Digital Future Challenge takes place in collaboration with the CDR – DFC seminar, led by the TUM Chair of Law and Security in Digital Transformation, which takes a practical approach to exploring corporate digital responsibility.
Launched by the Deloitte Foundation and Initiative D21, the Digital Future Challenge provides students with the opportunity to work on real-world use cases and develop forward-thinking ideas and concepts in key digital technologies. The challenge aims to explore digital responsibility from multiple perspectives and develop solutions for digital ethics challenges.
The student competition is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, with additional support from the Bertelsmann Foundation.
