Prof. Dr. Janina Isabel Steinert on New Study on Misogyny in Der Spiegel

A recent article in Der Spiegel reports on new research findings from a meta-analysis published in Psychological Bulletin: individuals who regularly consume misogynistic content are more likely to adopt sexist attitudes. Notably, this effect is not limited to men—women can also internalize such narratives.

Janina comments on the findings: “The study’s most important contribution lies in demonstrating a clear, statistically significant association between exposure to misogynistic content and various misogynistic responses across a wide range of study designs, content types, and participant groups.
Another key finding is the role of age as a moderator: adolescents and young adults show stronger responses to such content. These results may also provide an important basis for the current debate on the potential regulation of social media content and its use by minors.”
