Delegation of the Professorship of Global Health presents at world’s key research conference on violence against women, violence against children, and other forms of violence and wins award

Luise Koch, Shruti Shukla, and Ines Böhret attended the SVRI Forum in Cape Town, South Africa in October 2024. This is the world’s largest conference dedicated to addressing violence against women, children, and gender-based violence with a focus on challenges in low- and middle-income countries.
Luise delivered an impactful 4-minute presentation on the prevalence and consequences of online misogyny, presenting a rigorous quantitative analysis of online harassment targeting female candidates during elections. Her presentation was highly acclaimed and won her the prestigious Best 4-Minute Research Presentation by a Young Researcher Award.
Shruti shared insights from two studies. Her first presentation, Navigating Distress, delved into the factors affecting adolescent the well-being of girls during and after participation in violence-focused surveys in Maharashtra, India. Her second presentation, Women’s Informal Group Participation and Intimate Partner Violence, highlighted findings from a longitudinal study in Mwanza, Tanzania, which examined how involvement in community groups influences experiences of intimate partner violence.
Ines presented a poster on innovative interventions aimed to prevent and reduce economic violence against women, highlighting the critical roles of economic empowerment and supportive policies in combating gender-based violence.
