In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Yannis Theocharis discussed the differences between individual digital platforms such as Instagram and X, formerly Twitter, and their respective user groups. The users of platforms are generally more politically active than non-users. However, studies have also shown that "digital platforms do not replace offline participation, but rather reinforce it." He further noted that the design of the digital space and the rules that govern it are particularly important. Children and young people should be protected without restricting their freedom of expression.
