Kuat Abeshev is a Ph.D. candidate researching the role of climate emotions in the environmental movement, with a particular focus on ecological grief — the pain associated with environmental and climate-related loss — and its influence on political participation at both individual and collective levels. His interdisciplinary research integrates theoretical frameworks from psychology, philosophy, sociology, and social movement studies, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods.
With several publications, Kuat offers a unique perspective, combining academic rigor with practical experience in climate activism, including involvement in Extinction Rebellion (XR) and Fridays for Future (FFF). In addition to his Ph.D. work, he serves as Head of Communications for the Horizon Europe project ClimTip, where he helps communicate the science of climate tipping points to youth, scientists, and decision-makers. His earlier career includes over six years in creative media and advertising, as well as roles as a policy advisor at the World Biogas Association and Germanwatch, where he focused on environmental and international climate policy.
