The political journal “Zeitschrift für Politik” and several publication series are/were in the past published in cooperation with the Bavarian School of Public Policy.
“Zeitschrift für Politik”
“Zeitschrift für Politik“ (ZfP) was first published by Adolf Grabowsky and Richard Schmidt in 1907, making it Germany’s oldest political science periodical. A victim of the “Gleichschaltung” policy of enforced conformity during the Third Reich, the publication was suspended in 1945 and re-started in 1954.
In cooperation with the German Political Science Association (DVPW) and under the group of publishers composed of returned emigrants Adolf Grabowsky, Alexander Rüstow and Otto Suhr, the new series of “Zeitschrift für Politik” sought to make the now democracy-focused field of political science accessible to a wider public. In 1960, the DVPW set up its own quarterly journal under the title “Politische Vierteljahresschrift” (PVS). The school’s rector at the time, Prof. Helmut Kuhn, took the opportunity that same year to bring the long-established “Zeitschrift für Politik” to Munich as a “scientific publication of the Bavarian School of Public Policy”.
Between 1960 and 1983, the role of editor-in-chief was held first by the school’s legal adviser, Dr. Alfred Jüttner, and then by Prof. Henning Ottmann. The position was filled by Prof. Karl-Heinz Nusser between 1987 and 2005, and by Prof. Hans-Martin Schönherr-Mann from 2005 to 2007. Dr. Andreas Vierecke has been the journal’s editor since 2008. The publishers decide on the manuscripts to accept following a double-blind review procedure. The group of publishers currently includes:
- Prof. Maurizio Bach (University of Passau),
- Prof. Manfred Brocker (Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt),
- Prof. Dr. Nils Goldschmidt (University of Siegen),
- Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Wolfgang A. Herrmann (Technical University of Munich),
- Prof. Dr. Carlo Masala (Universität der Bundeswehr München),
- Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Heinrich Oberreuter (University of Passau),
- Prof. Dr. Joachim Scholtyseck (University of Bonn),
- Prof. Dr. Roland Sturm (University of Erlangen-Nuremberg).
The publishers and the editor are supported by a scientific advisory board composed of internationally renowned scientists as well as other external reviewers. The journal’s content covers the political science topics of the day as well as relevant political and scientific developments related to philosophy, socio-economics, the humanities and social science. “Schriftenreihe der Hochschule für Politische Wissenschaften München – Neue Folge” (series by Munich School of Political Science in Munich, new release)
In 1962, the Bavarian School of Public Policy commenced issuing the publication series “Schriftenreihe der Hochschule für Politische Wissenschaften München – Neue Folge” in cooperation with publishers Carl Heymanns Verlag. Now discontinued, the objective of this series was to widen the accessibility of high-quality scientific studies and investigations focusing on everyday politics and law, and to make article contributions more readily available. The authors of the items published were either lecturers at HfP or individuals in contact with the school.
“Junge Wissenschaft – Schriften der Hochschule für Politik München” (emerging science – publications by the Munich School of Political Science in Munich)
The “Junge Wissenschaft – Schriften der Hochschule für Politik München” series, which was published by the Bavarian School of Public Policy mainly in the years between 1990 to 2006, gave graduates as well as lecturers of the school the opportunity to publish high-quality scientific papers and thus make them accessible to interested members of the public. Most of the contributions were outstanding diploma theses written by students of the Bavarian School of Public Policy. The series was also open to research projects that were prompted or supported by the school.
“Sophos – Veröffentlichungen der Gesellschaft der Freunde der Hochschule für Politik München” (publications by the Association of Friends of the Munich School of Political Science)
In 2008, an additional publication series was established by Thomas S. Knuth and Dr. Bernd Mayerhofer under the name “Sophos – Veröffentlichungen der Gesellschaft der Freunde der Hochschule für Politik München” and published by Munich-based Herbert Utz Verlag. More information on the publication’s focus topics and authors is provided by the school’s friends and sponsors.
